A neurodevelopmental condition characterized by difficulties with attention, impulse control, activity level, and executive functioning that can impact a child’s learning, behavior, emotional regulation, and daily routines.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents can affect attention, impulse control, emotional regulation, organization, and follow-through with daily responsibilities. While some children may appear restless or constantly “on the go,” others may struggle more quietly with distractibility, forgetfulness, difficulty completing schoolwork, or challenges managing big emotions.
ADHD can impact many areas of a child’s life, including academic performance, peer relationships, family routines, self-esteem, and behavior at home or school. Symptoms may also look different as children grow, with younger children often showing more visible hyperactivity and adolescents more commonly experiencing difficulties with planning, time management, motivation, emotional reactivity, and independence.
Our evaluation process includes a thoughtful clinical interview, review of developmental and school history, rating scales when appropriate, and input from parents, caregivers, and teachers when available. We also consider other factors that may contribute to attention or behavioral concerns, including anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties, learning challenges, trauma, and environmental stressors.
Treatment for child and adolescent ADHD may include stimulant or non-stimulant medication, parent guidance, school collaboration, behavioral strategies, and coordination with therapists, pediatricians, or other supports. At BeeWell, care is individualized to support each child’s functioning, confidence, emotional wellness, and success across home, school, and community settings.
