Sleep

Insomnia

Persistent difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking earlier than desired, resulting in significant daytime impairment.

Chronic Insomnia Disorder affects a significant portion of adults and is one of the most common reasons people seek psychiatric care. Beyond feeling tired, chronic sleep deprivation impairs mood, cognitive function, immune health, and emotional resilience. Insomnia frequently co-occurs with anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, creating a cycle in which each condition worsens the others.

Our providers take a thorough approach to insomnia evaluation, including review of sleep history, medication contributions, caffeine and alcohol patterns, and screening for underlying conditions such as sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome that may require referral to a sleep specialist.

Treatment may include sleep hygiene education, coordination with therapists trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I, the gold-standard first-line intervention), and careful use of sleep medications when appropriate. Our goal is to help patients achieve sustainable, restorative sleep without long-term reliance on sedatives.
