Oppositional Defiant Disorder

Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or ODD, involves a persistent pattern of irritability, defiance, argumentativeness, or difficulty accepting limits that impacts functioning at home, school, or in relationships.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or ODD, is a behavioral and emotional regulation disorder that can affect children and adolescents. It may involve frequent irritability, anger, arguing with adults, refusal to follow rules, blaming others, or difficulty tolerating frustration and limits.

ODD is more than typical childhood pushback or occasional defiance. Symptoms are persistent, occur across time, and may interfere with family routines, school functioning, peer relationships, and the child’s overall emotional well-being. Children with ODD may also struggle with anxiety, ADHD, mood symptoms, trauma-related stress, learning challenges, or environmental stressors that contribute to emotional and behavioral difficulties.

At BeeWell, care begins with a thoughtful evaluation to better understand the child’s symptoms, developmental history, family and school concerns, and any co-occurring conditions. Treatment may include parent guidance, therapy coordination, school collaboration, behavioral strategies, and medication management when appropriate for related symptoms such as ADHD, anxiety, mood instability, or emotional dysregulation.
